Char Celebrates a Round 1 Victory

Char Celebrates a Round 1 Victory

***For this post, text in black is narrated by Louis while text in purple represents comments  by Char.***

Exactly one week after Char won the pool championship during her 39th birthday celebration,  I felt it was time to hold the promised rematch and take the title back.  Ummm, do you mean when I WHOOPED your catookas in pool? Char chose to get a bit too confident *cough cough*  Watch it, buddy! and cocky when she commented to our post after her birthday victory so it was fitting that I not let her “let me? LET ME??” HA!!! TOO FUNNY!!! keep the pool champion title any longer than a week – it was time to set things right. *uh-huh….sure…..

This time, there would be no going lightly for the first game.  Doing that cost me last time so I figured I would come out of the gate in fierce competition.  I knew she would so there would be no other option for me.  The rematch would consist of a best 3 out of 5.  The stage was set.  Round 1 was to begin.

The first game was well played on both sides and Char sank some relatively difficult shots along the way.  You know that’s right! So when one of those shots was the 8 ball in the side pocket for an early win, I guess I felt she deserved that one.  The night was still early and there was plenty of time for the tables to turn on her.  Like in Round 2, for example. *you mean that ridiculously EASY win I prepared for you??

There was only one shot in Round 2 worthy enough to expound upon in narrative.  Char had a straight-on shot at one of her balls in the side pocket.  She lined up the beginner’s shot, pulled back,  and struck the cue ball for what should have been an easy sink.

Key phrase:  should have been

The cue ball moved forward five inches or so, then curved  I know!  LOL What was THAT!?!! and just sort of fizzled out. *sigh* *hangs head in disbelief* It looked like a dud firework in a backyard display that started to fly but then just turned and burned out instead.  If I had only had a video camera to capture that shot! And you would have had LOTS of footage of some catookas whoopin’!!!

Char will tell you that she should have won the second match but don’t let her fool you.  A loss is a loss.  We had played the game down to the wire as we usually do and she scratched, leaving me with a ball in hand shot for the 8 ball.  Smirk though she did, she watched the 8 ball fall in the corner pocket to tie things up.  My plan was working.  It would only be a matter of time now until I took the night 3-1.

Char sinks a corner shot in Round 3

Or so I figured.  First, though, it was time to start Round 3.

Round 3 was another close match, well fought and coming down to the wire once again.  And it was indeed at the wire that the match turned suddenly unfortunate.   Allow me to explain.

There’s this really stupid rule in 8-ball.  If you scratch on the 8 ball, you lose.  If I had invented the game, this would not be the case.  Instead, I’d say the opponent gets ball in hand.  Ummmm, my amazing husband isn’t being a sore loser, is he?  LOL -  A rule is a rule, baby!!! That way they have to actually work for the victory.  Maybe the opponent needs to step up to the plate and provide a better challenge?  *snicker snicker…. I LOVE YOU!!* When a game ends like this, it’s more that one player loses than it is that the other player wins. *sniff sniff*  I’m crying tears for you, baby!  REMATCH, then!!!!! It’s a guarantee I will win once again…and again….and again… and again….

And that’s what happened in Round 3.  I have a hard time saying Char won Round 3.  It’s more like I lost it.  I had a clear shot at the 8 ball, which I sank with great expertise.  But the cue ball bounced off the bumper after the 8 ball was sank and rolled back into a pocket.  Char was so excited she thought she had won the whole competition. I won!!! I won!!!! *insert Char jiggy dance* I had to explain to her that it was only 2-1 and that this was a best of 5.  It’s one thing to celebrate a victory, but to gloat over getting a cheap win like this… that demanded an answer.  I knew what I had to do:  win convincingly in Rounds 4 and 5.  And that’s what I intended to do. *giggle* You’re killin’ me babe!!!

Char was a bit too excited after winning Round 3. In fact, I still think Round 3 was more a situation where I lost, not one where she won...

Round 4 began slightly different than the others.  Well, actually more than slightly.  Round 4 wasn’t as close as the other games we’ve played.  In fact, it was a pretty sad showing.  I guess I was still distracted from the ridiculous loss in the previous round and just not focused.  *insert our boxer howling in the middle of the night* Char took the early advantage sinking all but two of her balls before I had sank a single one. Yes, sir! I’m good like that!! LOL

This streak wouldn’t last, however, as I eventually came back to even the match.  In the end, it came down to her shooting for the 8 ball victory while I had one ball left on the table. WOOOOOOHOOOOOOO!!!!!! I WON!!! I WON!!!! Hey world!! I WON!!!!! AGAIN!!!!!

That’s when a terrible, no good, very bad thing happened.  *who are you? Gregory, the terrible, no good eater? LOL* Or, as Douglas Adams might say, that’s when a terrible, stupid catastrophe occurred.

I scratched, leaving Char with the cue ball in hand and a perfect corner pocket shot at the 8 ball.

Char won Round 4 with this all-too-easy shot.

Char won Round 4 with this all-too-easy shot.

Rather than doing what a really great player would do, and giving herself a complex shot at the 8 ball, she went for the easy win.  She placed the cue ball just behind the 8 ball which was just in front of the corner pocket.

I closed my eyes.

It didn’t help. *so sad for you…sniff, sniff, sniff..wipes a trickling tear…… NOT!*  *grin*  Don’t feel bad, sweetheart! You are the most amazing kisser in the world!!!

Char won Round 4 and took the night 3-1. HEY WORLD!!!! I TOLD you!  I WON!!!! WOOOT!!! WOOOOT!!!!!  *insert Char’s evil laughter*

There were just too many curiosities in these matches and rest assured, there will be another rematch… soon.  When? Name the date and time and I will be there!!! Had Char simply cleaned the tables on me, I would gladly acknowledge her deserved championship.  But as it is, there’s just too much unsettled.  It’s clear to me that we must hold the next rematch to settle this once and for all.  Unless, Char, you’re scared of the potential results for some reason… Moi? Scared? NEVAH!!!! Bring it on, baby!!! I double dog dare ya!!

As always, Louis and I had a blast!! God knew what He was doing when He brought us together. Join us for more adventures and story telling soon! Come back often. You never know what we may do next in a community near you!

Addendum to post: Indeed, we did hold another rematch. It’s filed under “While At Home.” Read about it by clicking here.
