Char and Louis experience “A Day in the Life of a Professional Wrestler”

For the second episode of A Day in the Life, Char and I were trained to be professional wrestlers by Traditional Championship Wrestling star, “All That” Alan Steel.

We traveled to Little Rock, Arkansas and were part of their SummerClash event at the Clear Channel Metroplex.  We spent the day with Alan Steel learning how to do what they do, we interviewed many of the wrestlers, and then we took to the ring ourselves!  That’s right… Char and I went toe to toe in a mixed wrestling match you’ve got to see to believe!

In spite of Char and I participating in a mixed gender wrestling match, it is important to note that the late Andy Kaufman still holds the World Intergender Wrestling Champion title.

Lynne Margulies, who was Andy Kaufman’s girlfriend and who also produced the classic I’m From Hollywood documentary on Kaufman’s wrestling career, joins The Traveling Twosome in this episode of A Day in the Life for a conversation on Andy Kaufman.  The episode also contains new footage of Andy Kaufman from his wrestling days!  Lynne Margulies has just published a hilarious book of letters (more like hate mail) written to Andy Kaufman  during this time spent taunting women around the nation and challenging them to a match – you’ll also get a sneak peak at this book!

Check out Traditional Championship Wrestling on their official website.

UPDATE *** Feb 2014 ***  We have recently released a new eBook with tons of pics and narratives about our wrestling experiences during and after this TV show.  Check it out here!

Oh dear Louis, maybe I was wrong in thinking you might win!! That was a good video, and funny watching the two of you wrestling! Char won easily!!! Don’t even try the boxing she would knock you out in one punch!

Thanks – we’re glad you enjoyed the show! Yeah, the match was a little one sided, I suppose. It was a great time spending the day with Alan Steel and the other wrestlers from TCW. We had a BLAST filming the episode!

First, I love the show. You really need to keep this going, but how are you going to top this episode I wonder? Second, this is for Char, you really could be a pro wrestler! You would be fun to watch! And Louis, don’t feel bad about the match buddy. I don’t think there’s many guys out there who could beat her unless they are trained themselves. When I saw her intimidation trash talk and yours, I knew it was over for you 🙂

Thanks Vince! HAhahahahahaha The intimidation trash talk made me laugh so hard! I mean, Andy Kauffman?? Elvis Presley?? I had NONE words!! HAhahahahahahahaha Alan Steel is right….Louis scored a few points for creativity! *grin* Louis did give me a fun fight but I am EXTREMELY competitive and refused to give him a chance!! Wrestling was hard work but GREAT FUN! Until this episode I never realized how intense my facial expressions get!! I laughed when we first watched!!!

We will become magicians for the day and do a magic show at night for the public alongside a really amazing magician. I think that episode is going to be a ton of fun! We have MANY shows in the making. Stay tuned!!

It felt sweeeeeeet!!! LOL I am extremely competitive so to be able to do my Char-Victory-Jiggy-Dance was a great feeling! I still taunt Louis about it!! I told him he was “going down” and I meant it!! *wink* It was funny to see the expressions on everyone’s faces as we were training and then having the actual wrestling match. I am much stronger than most people realize! *grin* I REPRESENTED! GIRL POWER!!! HAHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA We really did have a blast! It was so much fun shooting this TV show!

You guys look like you have so much fun! I watched your show and when I saw Char say at the beginning that she was going to “slam Louis to the ground” I had to watch. I was going for Char and wanted to see her win. But as the show went on, Louis was just too funny and won me over. I kinda felt sorry for him in the training! hehehe By the match, I was pulling for Louis! If you do a rematch show like you said at the end, then Louis I’m on your side. Going to go watch your other show later tonight. Keep up the great website!

Kathy, want to know the funny thing… we went in to the match with me planning to play the role of the “good guy” and Char was going to be the “bad guy” (or girl in this case). But the fans in Little Rock just didn’t go along with that. Seems like everyone – male and female – wanted Char to win the match. So having you in my corner… wow, it’s going to take some time to get used to actually having a supporter out there! As for feeling sorry for me during the training – I don’t know whether to take that as a compliment or embarrassment but for now, I’ll just take it – how’s that? Alan had mentioned a season 3 rematch show – that’s a possibility perhaps – but for now, you’ll have to settle for other competitions. In October, for example, we’re doing a Tug of War contest. You should do a comic book of your TV show episodes like you did on the arm wrestling match. That would be cool. Especially the comic of the wrestling episode!

Hey Traveling Twosome I have a few observations for you. First is for Louis, you were nuts to agree to this match. You had to know there was no way you would be able to beat Char in a wrestling match. I could tell two minutes into the training that you were going in as the underdog. And Char, you had Louis on the defense the entire match but you looked like you were not giving it your all. I bet if you wanted to you could have won this match so much faster. Also, I have to give credit to you both for spending a day in the life of a pro wrestler. They really are amazing sportsmen. But if you really wanted a taste of being a pro wrestler, you two should have each wrestled a pro wrestler rather than each other. Or you guys could have been a tag team and faced a real pro tag team. I would love to see that. If you guys do a rematch show like you said, can you also include a match where you and Louis face a real tag team together? I bet Char could actually hold her own pretty well against some of them. And Alan Steel, you da man for doing this show! Awesome job, everyone. Louis, better luck in your rematch. You’ll need it against Char! LOL

  • August 26, 2010 at 3:20 am

Parker! What a great idea! Char and I on a tag team together! Now that’s quite an idea! I’ll have to give this some thought regarding a rematch show… but should we do it, I still want to have another shot at Char again as well.

And yes, Alan Steel is indeed the man. He was not only a great wrestler and representative of TCW but he was also a great guy altogether. Char and I enjoyed working with him and loved his personality.

Keep watching! You never know what Char and I will do next…. 🙂

Char….that was not a contest. You were simply toying with him. To be fair, most average men would struggle against you. You guys should do a contest lifting weights (or each other) to see who can lift the most and the longest. I think that would be fun and would really show why you keeps beating him.

Your show was hilarious but now I’m dying to see another match with you guys. I also would like to see a match where Char and Louis each have a real wrestler for a tag team partner and they do a tag team match. What is the chance that we could see either of these scenarios?

  • November 5, 2010 at 12:05 pm
    Permalink

Jimmy – Well, one of your scenarios might work… I can see Char and I having a rematch one of these days. As for the tag team idea, I just can’t seem to find any other wrestlers bold enough to go in the ring against Char. They’re a bit frightened of her… 🙂

So awesome! You got to hang out with pro wrestlers and get in a real ring. That’s so cool. You’ve got the coolest job in the world.

Char you did a great job. You should go up against one of the wrestling divas in an exhibition match. I’d love to see that. I bet you’d wear them out!

HAHAHAHA Beau…… it was a BLAST!!! I never thought I would get in a ring with professional wrestlers. I didn’t know what to expect! They were amazing people to work with. And just for the record, those wrestling diva’s are WICKED! LOL I have much respect for them chicks!

Just watched this episode of your TV show and not being a wrestling fan, I was surprised how much I enjoyed it! You two are so much fun! You might even turn me into a wrestling fan. Maybe. 🙂

Congratulations on beating your husband’s butt, Char! You were right, he didn’t stand a chance against you!

I have to ask, you guys seem to love competing against each other in various sports and games. If you could compete against each other in anything at all, what would it be?

Kylie, wow… great question. I’ll answer first since Char is cooking dinner right now. She’ll respond a bit later tonight. I have a couple, actually. One would be to go back in time to high school years and have us compete in a sprint. I am… or was back then, at least… VERY fast. Char claims she was as well. A nice 100 yard dash at our prime would be GREAT. My other, well you already saw it on “A Day in the Life of a Professional Wrestler.”
