If you’ve read The Traveling Twosome blog any length of time, you’ve certainly come across plenty of posts, comments, and videos of Char and I taunting each other. This is especially prevalent in our Competition posts and our comments to them. But our taunting is obviously not just your typical “trash talking” – there is a humor to it all… and it’s impossible to miss that we are a loving couple having FUN.
We’ve received emails and comments from our readers who enjoy our bantering back and forth and delight in seeing a couple be able to play with one another the way we do. In recent weeks, we’ve even had readers fan the flames of our competitive natures by recommending various competitions and challenges for us to bring upon each other… which, of course, led to more good natured taunting.
Truth be told, Char and I are best friends. We absolutely love playing with each other, challenging each other, teasing and taunting each other, etc. We truly feel like we are 17 years old inside and I’m sure we always will feel this way.
When we started this blog, it began as a place to showcase our hilarious journeys around this land – sort of a couple’s own personal Roadside America. We were going to write posts and take pics of amusing oddities around the nation. This concept immediately expanded to also include our day to day junkets around our home town. From trips to fairs to trips to the mall, our day to day life is always filled with laughter and hilarity so why not share this as well, we thought. But then what about the place where most of our fun takes place – at home. Hence, the When At Home section. The fun we have at home couldn’t be contained in one category so we quickly broke off a major subsection: Competitions. From playing pool to competing at Wii Sports, this section quickly attracted many new readers to our blog and got you all interacting with us via blog post comments. One common theme stuck out: readers loved seeing Char and I challenge and taunt one another, knowing it was all in love.
We do have a great time with it all. We are both alike in so many ways! As best friends, we are truly competitive and also have most of the same passions in life (e.g. playing in our band, Vintage). One of the things we enjoy most about our marriage is our playfulness with each other. So often, Char and I run across couples who “hardly know each other.” We believe the best remedy for this social problem is that couples need to find activities and passions they can do together… and do them. And may we suggest, don’t just do them but do them passionately. Compete with each other, bring out the best in each other, challenge each other, laugh at and with each other. Be best friends. When a couple chooses to have separatation of passions and not be best friends, why are they surprised when intimacy is difficult to achieve?
Another fun consideration for couples who need to throw in some excitement is to do things that one partner has never done before – or do things that both have never done before and laugh at and with each other as you discover a new activity together. For example, Char was recently challenged to face off against me in an old school game: paper football. She has never really played before. I, on the other hand, played hours every day as a school kid. And during all my years of playing, I’ve never lost a single game – ever. It’s been years since I’ve played but I know I still have all my skills. So even though Char won’t stand a chance against me at this competition (hehehe), we are going to have a great time playing! And I’ll have a great time writing (and taunting her) about it.
Speaking of taunting, Char gets her turn as much as I do. On this past New Year’s Eve, we played Air Hockey.

(Hint: It wasn’t good for me). And what about her infamous “you got beat by a girl” tirade after a recent pool competition…
Or, who can forget the Wii Sports Resort Power Cruising Championship. Char was just terrible at the game. Terrible. I was winning – and winning big each time. It was so funny watching her try, however, that we posted three videos of her attempts on a blog post.
But not one to give up easily, she wanted to try again a few days later. Once again, she kept losing – and losing big. I told her, “One last time, and then we’ll move on to the next game. Ok, so for the Jet Ski championship…” Wouldn’t you know it? She beat me on that one and thus far, has yet to give me a rematch!

I’m sure we’ll be having competitive and taunting laughs for years and years to come. And I’m sure our readers will keep throwing challenge and competition ideas at us as well (most of which we will get to and blog about). I know our next big one is the reader requested Arm Wrestling Challenge which we will hold on January 29th. I look forward to taunting Char after she goes down in this event. I know Char will be a good sport about it! 🙂 And I know that we’ll have a blast doing it together and laughing about our lives. As Char’s life motto says… Live, Love, and Laugh.
