With this post, Char and I officially begin our new Traveling Twosome series showcasing our Wii Competitions!  For any couples out there who enjoy playing games together and competing with one another, there’s nothing quite like the Wii.  The simplicity of the Wii controllers combined with the “virtual reality” feeling of actually performing the moves of your on-screen character, or Mii, make the Nintendo Wii game system a great option for couples looking for a fun and easy-to-learn video game console that you won’t soon get tired of.

Char and I have noticed that the most popular posts on this blog have been our competitions and in our recent Main Event Pool Competition we mentioned we would soon start a series of posts showcasing our Table Tennis and Wii Competitions.  And since we received such great feedback on the videos we posted so far, we are including more videos of our Wii action.  At the bottom of this post you can click links to our hilarious videos and, of course, our photo gallery.

We broke ourselves in with some exciting Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort action!   Wii Sports contains 5 major events:  Bowling, Golf, Tennis, Boxing, and Baseball.  Wii Sports Resort offers many more outdoor sports including Archery, Wakeboarding, Basketball, Table Tennis, Swordplay, Cycling, and more!

We began the night with a game of Wii Sports Bowling.  Char started the event off with a strike and took the early lead.  Three frames into the game, she held a comfortable lead. But a failure in Frame 4 to bowl a spare put her behind for the remainder of the match.  By the 10th frame, she had pulled within 3 pins of me and it would come down to a photo finish.  I held on – just barely – winning the match 158-157. *oooh, that hurt* I sense a request for a rematch in the near future.  I don’t know… I think Char might deserve that. *Awwww, see, he’s much nicer than I am! LOL*

The bowling game is easy to pick up and fun to play.  It does feel like bowling without the weight of the ball.  Slight hand movements do affect the spin of the ball and the action is realistic.  For a more real experience, I recommend putting on 2 pound weight gloves as you “roll” the ball with the Wiimote controller.

Baseball was our next event and unlike most of our challenges, this one wasn’t even close.  Char held me back with a no-hitter including several strike outs.  Her offense wasn’t spectacular but with the pitching game she gave me, she didn’t need much.  Yeppers, I’m just that good! *grin* She didn’t even have to play the bottom of the final inning as she had already won the game 3-0. * WoooHooooo!   I won! I won!! I won!!!! *Insert Char jiggy dance here* This is a game I’ll have to practice if I want a chance against Char’s pitching game.  After two events, our first Wii Competition was tied at 1-1. *ooooh, too close!! I must always win!! I must! I must!! I must!!! LOL* Next event:  Tennis.

It seems like Char and I have a photo finish in almost everything in which we compete. In our first bowling competition, Char loses by one pin.

Wii Sports Tennis might be my favorite of the games on Wii Sports.  There’s just no way no to get your whole body in the action!  You’ll find yourself diving and reaching when balls come into your court.  You’ll want to give yourself plenty of room for this sport!  Especially if you are like us. Our eldest laughs at us because we truly almost always knock into the TV screen…well, at least I do! *shakes head, rolls eyes and laughs.*  I just can’t help it!  I get into it!
Char and I have played Wii Sports tennis off and on for a couple of years.  We’ve always been equally matched and the games have been extraordinarily close.  But as we started our Wii Compete Tennis challenge, Char hadn’t played this in a while.  She said had forgotten what to do and looked hilarious as she was trying to figure out once again how to serve and how to play.  I gave her a few practices and let her get re-acquainted with the game.  It didn’t take long before she had recalled all she needed to remember about playing this one.
We were going to play three Best of 3 tennis matches to determine the victor.  Char won the first match 2 games to 1.  *As if you expected anything less? Puhlease!* In match 2, game one went to Char and game two was mine.  If I were to hang on, I had to win game 3.  We wound up in an intense volley back and forth at 40-40 that lasted about two entire minutes.  In the end, Char took the game and the Tennis challenge 2 matches to zero. *Uh Huh Uh Huh Uh Huh Uh Huh Uh Huh*
Golf was next on our agenda.  It took Char almost the whole time to get the hang of it but a couple bad strokes on my part kept the match close.  In the end, we tied – both of us with a pitiful 5 shots over par.  We assessed the night’s events.  Char was in the lead having won 2 events (Tennis and Baseball) to my one (Bowling). *insert shocked look here…. NOT!  Like our readers wouldn’t expect ME to win? HA!!* We had one tie (Golf) and a few options to continue the evening’s competition.  We thought about Wii Sports Boxing… got in our corners and considered it long and hard.  Neither of us were ready to tire ourselves out just yet so we agreed to switch discs to Wii Sports Resort and come back to boxing at the end of the night.
Char shuts Louis out convincingly in Wii Sports Baseball.

Our first Wii Sports Resort game was Wakeboarding.  It was fun to play and looked cool on the screen.  I thought I did pretty well for my first time out and finished the event with 553 points.  Char took her turn and came out with a VERY impressive showing.  Not long at all into the event, she had nearly as many points as I finished with.  It looked like victory was hers until a strange thing happened.  She kept falling into the water on each of her jumps.  The last half of her wakeboarding time amounted to very few points and she finished the event having lost by 12 points – about one good jump. *so sad…… *sniff sniff* However, this shall not last, my friends. You all know I can never let anyone beat me, especially my husband!! LOL*

The night was tied at 2 events each with 1 tie.  Archery was next on our agenda.

Archery was a bit more challenging than some of the other events but very interesting and entertaining.  Once we got the hang of it, it turned out to be a favorite.  We played two contests, winning one each.  Why we didn’t play a best of 3 at Archery, I don’t know.  We left Archery at a draw and the night stood very close and competitive (as usual for Char and I).  Char won two, I won two, and we tied on two. *Isn’t that amazing? I mean, seriously folks. It seems to always be like this with us. It’s AWESOME and SO MUCH FUN!!! Louis darling….have I told you lately how much I love you? *insert passionate kiss*

Char sits in her corner contemplating whether or not to get in the ring for a few rounds of Wii Sports Boxing.

We took a small break, were about to play more Resort games – and then finish the night off with a few rounds of boxing – but that never came to pass.  We started playing the Jet Skiing game on Wii Sports Resort and Char just never got the hang of it.  She practiced a long time to no avail. *ok, this woman speaks truth and yes, I admit, this thing got the best of me. I was wiped out exhausted! I have not given up! I never will! Keep reading because I will stand in VICTORY!* We never got back to the Wii competition so the night stood at a draw.  You’ll notice we added a submenu under Competitions for Wii Competitions.  This is only the first post in an ongoing series, much like our Billiards challenges.

We can’t leave the Wii challenge at a draw for long – we’re far too competitive for that… so check back soon to see who’ll win as Wii Compete continues…

Until then, enjoy these videos from our first Wii Compete Competition.  Videos are in MP4 format and playable with Quicktime, iTunes, VLC, or any browser with a Quicktime plugin.

See Char cheat and get a free strike at Wii Baseball (though I admit, she won this one fair and square).

*OK, I must admit…YOU tried cheating and it bit you in the end and gave me some really amazing chuckles!!!  LOLOLOL*

Um, Char…. just one question…. were you trying to see how many “while”s you could fit into one sentence or something on that last comment? Just curious…. I love you! 😉

YES YES YES – I completely concur! And you, my bride, are pretty amazing yourself! She’s right, folks, keep playing with your families and enjoy every moment! Char and I started this blog as a fun way to chronicle the funny things we do together – sort of an online, electronic scrapbook of our life and times. But over the months, we have been told time and time again how you people enjoy reading about our fun times and are encouraged to spend more time having fun with your own spouses and children! And THAT makes our day. Both Char and I can tell you from first hand accounts… treat every day – no – treat every moment as a special gift. Live, love, and laugh. Being in a loving marriage and having the privilege of raising children is a blessing beyond measure! Enjoy!

Keep the videos coming! Do you have Mario Kart? That’s the best Wii game ever – I’d love to see you guys write about that one!

  • December 22, 2009 at 3:58 pm

Our son plays Mario Kart but we don’t have it on the Wii right now. Hey Nintendo – send us a free copy and we’ll review it for you! 🙂

We’ll certainly be continuing with the videos! Those are so much fun! Actually, you’ve given me a great idea. I think I need to let the world see a video of Char trying to play Guitar Hero or Rock Band guitar.

That’ll be a competition I’ll EASILY win and you guys will have a blast watching Char make it through all of about 12 notes. lol

  • December 22, 2009 at 4:03 pm

Just to entertain all of our reading fans, I’ll let you TEACH me and allow you to make video for them as you do. I don’t mind being the life of the party…or …maybe that would be the LAUGH of the party! Anything for my friends! LOL Just remember folks….make cheap entertainment checks out to…… *grin*
